FAQs

How do I begin the process of therapy or coaching?

You can contact me at (401) 835-5041 or via e-mail at drjohnzeller@zellerpsychology.com Before scheduling an initial appointment, I find it helpful to have a brief, 10 minute phone consultation so that I can get a better sense of presenting issues and answer any specific questions you may have, etc.

Do you accept insurance?

Please note that I do not currently participate in any insurance plans. However, many insurance plans have out-of-network provisions and may provide some percentage of reimbursement to the client. If you wish to use out-of-network benefits, I can provide you with documentation that you can submit to your insurance company.

What should I expect in my first therapy session?

In the initial session, we will review your background, discuss your current concerns, and explore your goals for therapy. This session is also a time for us to get to know each other and determine if we’re a good fit. It’s a collaborative process, and I encourage you to ask any questions you may have.

How often are therapy sessions?

The frequency of therapy sessions is typically determined collaboratively based on your individual needs and goals. Many clients begin with weekly sessions, but this can be adjusted as needed.

Do you offer coaching for athletes?

Yes, I specialize in sport and performance psychology and offer coaching to athletes of all levels. I help athletes enhance their performance by developing mental skills such as the management of performance anxiety and pressure, improvement of focus, emotional regulation, and visualization.

How do I know if therapy is right for me?

Therapy can be beneficial for a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, stress, relationship issues, and life transitions. If you’re struggling with challenges that are impacting your well-being or preventing you from reaching your full potential, therapy may be helpful. As a specialist in clinical, sport, and performance psychology, as well as spirituality and mindfulness, I offer tailored support. An initial consultation provides a safe space to discuss your needs and explore how therapy can help.

What is a Good Faith Estimate and how can I get one?

According to The No Surprises Act: Title 45, section 149.610 of the Code of Federal Regulations, effective 1/1/2022, you have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your healthcare will cost.

Under the law, clients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance are entitled to an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services.

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services. You can ask your healthcare provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service, or at any time during treatment.

If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 800-985-3059.
